Sights in Sedona!

A place brought to us by Houndmouth. We never imagined it to be a future destination, but driving through Arizona, past tumbleweeds and weird billboards, we found ourselves in Sedona. Even if you haven’t heard of Sedona, you’ve seen it in old Western Movies and Fly Delta ads. The heart of Red Rock Country. Arriving in Sedona, we weren’t necessarily welcomed into the camping world. With limited availably and closures due to covid, we found ourselves staying in a nice hotel instead of the woods. Though we didn’t sleep outside, we still successfully got sunburnt and conquered the great outdoors of the Sedona area.

Devil’s Bridge, a place you’ve seen on your Instagram explore page, was the destination of our first hike. A beautiful yet challenging climb up red rock. Reaching the top, we were surprised by the crowds and horrified by the things people did on a 3-foot-wide rock bridge, 75 feet off the forest canopy below. Be prepared to worry about the lives of many strangers. Walking out there ourselves, it was a little less stressful. The bridge is wider than it may appear, but this does not mean you should do anything but stand and smile.

That same day, we drove a short distance to our next hike: the famous Birthing Cave. A short, 2 mile trek, the cave is beautiful and serene, and offers sweeping views of Sedona. Though the trail is a little harder to follow, you’ll be grateful once you’ve arrived at your destination and for the lack of crowds.

Our final hike was to Cathedral Rock. We weren’t planning on going all the way to the top. But once you start, how could you not finish? A more difficult trek up required skills demonstrated by Spiderman. The sweat and breathlessness are more than worth it for the views and miraculous feeling of reaching the end of trail sign. We promise, you won’t regret it.

We finished up our time in Sedona with a Scenic Rim Pink Jeep Tour at sunset. It was a great way to explore what we hadn’t yet seen. The bumps are all part of the fun. Although the photos may be blurry, the majestic scenery is permanently in our memories.

Sedona has a reputation of being an amazing city. We didn’t feel a connection to the city itself. It felt touristy and for us, wasn’t worth the hype. However, the scenery outside made it special and well worth the trip.
